December has arrived and with it the charm of Christmas. Barcelona shows a special magic. The elegance of its buildings and the hustle and bustle in its streets are beautified with colors, music and pure Christmas’s spirit. The sound of the Christmas‘s bells enlivens the corners with a festive and magic environment. The ornamentation in trees, doors, balconies, avenues seduce the city with a fresh air. Despite the limitations of this year, Christmas in Barcelona will not leave to be a memorable experience for you.
What to do in Barcelona in Christmas?
First, to walk through Barcelona’s streets and squares in the nights is a pure privilege. You will enjoy tons of lights around the city with exciting colors and forms. The main commercial avenues such as Paseeig de Gràcia are the perfect scenery to find big Christmas’s trees, Easter Flowers and a sea of lights where families and friends take the most beautiful pictures of the season.
You will know curious Christmas Cataluña traditions. One of the most popular is celebrated on December 24th. The children cover with a blanquet and feed a wood log named Tio because the legend says it is supposed to poop presents after they hit it and they sign a song. Is a funny moment to watch where the happiness of the kids brings a special joy to the room. If you are in Barcelona with your family by January the 6th, especially with children, it’s mandatory to assist the Magicians Kings Parade. It is a unique, familiar moment to remember.
Once the last month of the year is coming you can see piles of woods and metal stands piling up to become later on in a fine Christmas attraction: The Xmas markets. These “season markets” are all over the city bringing different offers and joy to visitors and locals. There you can buy amazing gifts and incredible artisans pieces, and figures to decorate your home. The most famous that you must visit is the Sagrada Familia Fair.
The delicious smell of the food in the street is an authentic decoy to your appetite. One of the true Christmas delicacies in Barcelona is to eat the spectacular chocolate with fritters. You could find some cafeterias to taste this pleasure. Referring to the food, the sellers, with a special charisma will give you the best products so you can taste the Catalonian delicacies. But if you are visiting, you can have an exquisite Christmas Dinner in more than a few good restaurants all over the city where you will be delighted with the exquisite Spanish food for the occasion.
Without any doubt, Christmas is a special moment of the year. But if you visit Barcelona at times, you will live a brilliant Christmas to remember. The beauty of the city, the happiness of the people and the variety of activities to enjoy will make a memorable and different experience for you.
