We will discover some of the public works of the contemporary sculptor Josep Maria Subirachs, the author of the Sagrada Familia’s Passion Façade (the so-called New Façade).
His personal carving style, half realistic, half cubistic, has always been the personal feature and part of the symbolism he used elsewhere, from the first public contemporary artwork in town to the last work of his.
Considered as the major contemporary Catalan sculptor, an important part of his public work is to be seen along the Diagonal, the city’s longest street or avenue, which makes an interesting and beautiful promenade.
We start the tour at the plaza, where we have a little introduction to who Josep Maria Subirachs was. During the tour, we will have TWO CRAFT BEER STOPS, both consisting of 2 pints of 0,33 ml tasting beer and 2 pintxos (a basque piece of bread with toppings, yummy) or other snacks each.
The first one will be a tiny stop, kind of refreshment, and the second one will be where we finish this tour, near Sagrada Familia.
Once again we combine history, culture, and art with food. Personally, I think is the best way to enjoy these moments.
Plaça de Francesc Macià & Av. de Josep Tarradellas, 08029 Barcelona
Due to the nature of the tour, there are some pieces of advice that are important to follow so we can make the best of our time. We´re gonna be walking for a long time, so it’s important to put on sunscreen and wear a comfortable outfit. To find the guide at the meeting point, just search for an umbrella with our logo and remember he’s gonna be waiting for you at the meeting point 10 minutes before the tour starts.
Subirachs had many artistic and creative attitudes, he was known as a sculptor, but he was renowned in other techniques such as painting, drawing, books illustration and even jewels designing! He even prepared numerous scenarios for very well known ballet and theatre works. Barcelona embraced talent through its history.
