Visit Barcelona starting from the center!

Art and history have reserved a special date with you in the heart of Barcelona City: Plaça de Catalunya. This magnificent square was inaugurated in 1927 by King Alfonso Xll. Over the years, it has become one of the most visited sites for both natives and visitors who come to admire the beauty and enjoy the infinite options it offers all around.

Plaça de Catalunya spans an area of over 30,000 square meters. It’s the transition from old to modern Barcelona. Another fun fact: it represents the departure point of important city streets such as La Rambla, Passeig de Gracia, and Portal del Angel. In this last one, you can find many stores arranged side-by-side (H&M, Bershka, Zara, Stradivarius among others). It’s a a great place for a stroll, and you’ll find musicians singing and playing pianos along the street. This is one of the most famous Barcelona Attractions located along a greenway.

The central location allows easy access into Barcelona, making it one of the city’s most important transportation centers. Many bus lines start here before making there way to other popular attractions – some of which are most likely already in your itinerary. You could also take Barcelona’s Metro in the interchange Station under the square. And don’t forget to check out the starting point of Las Ramblas.

If you enjoy a leisurely walk, you have to add other important places in Barcelona, such as the Boqueria Market (Located also in Las Ramblas), the Catalan Music Palace, or the Liceu Theatre, and they’re all near Plaça de Catalunya.

Within Plaça de Catalunya you will discover a majestic architectural wonder! Explore the magnificent sculptures, monuments, and modernist buildings surrounding it. We promise you’ll love it! Amongst them, you will find luxury hotels, banks, restaurants, bars, and the most important department store in Spain: El Corte Inglés.

Beyond its wonderful cultural richness, Plaça de Catalunya is a magnificent site for entertainment. It ironically blends the contrast of the tourist experience with the daily lives of locals frantically conducting their daily routines.

Plaça de Catalunya is a must when you come to Barcelona. Enjoy a remarkable experience because there’s always something for visitors to love when exploring the essence of the city.
