Art and history have reserved a special date with you in the heart of Barcelona City: Plaça de Catalunya. This magnificent square was inaugurated in 1927 by the King Alfonso Xll and it has become over the years in the most transited place every day for natives and foreigners, admiring the beauty and enjoying the infinities options it offers all around.
Plaça de Catalunya has 30000 square meters of surface, it is the limit that separates the old from modern Barcelona. Other interesting data which is important to know is that it represents the departure point of important city’s avenues such as Las Ramblas, Passeig de Gracia and Portal del Angel. In this last one, you can find a lot of stores next to the others (H&M, Bershka, Zara, Stradivarius among others) and it’s a nice walk though, there are people singing on the street and playing piano and else.
The centric location allows easy access into the city, becoming itself one of the most important transportation centers. There are the beginning of some bus lines to move towards other interesting places you choose in your schedule or you could take Barcelona’s Metro in the interchange Station under the square.
Within Plaça de Catalunya you will discover a majestic architectural world and will surely be delighted with the lovable sculptures, monuments and modernist buildings surrounding it, amongst those you will find luxury hotels, banks, restaurants, bars and the most important department store in Spain: El Corte Inglés.
Beyond its wonderful cultural richness, Plaça de Catalunya is a magnificent site for entertainment, because it allows you to live a funny moment between the contrast of your tourist experience and the day by day of the local people, trying to get to their destinations and rushing hour after hour.
