Cosmocaixa, a place for the entire family in Barcelona City.

In one of my previous posts, I mentioned this wonderful place as one of the locations you can go with kids, but that was just a glimpse of what you can find there. If you haven´t read it yet, run to it and gossip a bit, so you have an idea of what to do when you visit Barcelona with the kids. The post it´s called: 5 Places To Go And Have Fun With Kids In Barcelona.

Since we have tons of restrictions here and there are no tourists in Barcelona right away or any time soon, we decided to prepare an excursion to Cosmocaixa for our friends and family and give them a huge surprise with it. I´ll give you the major spoiler…the visit was a success!!! The kids were in love with every part of it: the dinosaurs, the science experiments, the parts of the human body, and last but not least, the Flooded Wood.

I’ve just given you kinda most of the info hahaha. Yes, that’s pretty much what this place is all about, but…summarizing is easy, the real deal is you been there and staying astonishing the entire time with all the curious stuff the nave has.

Because of this Covid-19 situation the staff there has marked the direction of the visit. First, they have some cool 3D printers and some futuristic models of clothes, shoes, and even prosthetic parts for missing limbs. Also, they have some guitars, motorcycles made out of different elements less harmful to the environment, and a display of lights and images.

There is a machine with the one you can play this memory game in which you have to remember the card that has the same drawing as the one you’re seeing, but the other card is backward. Of course, the machine always wins hahaha, but it’s fun anyway. We spent a few minutes there amused by this technology.

More Science…cool!

After that part there is the main nave in the one you can get lost because there are tons of experiments and animals and things a priori you don’t get to understand, but after you´ll get into it. There you can find experiments on the wind, ice, mostly the way physics works. There is a part with the evolution of the human being, if you have any doubts, the staff explains to you about what is exposed. Also, there is a part with microorganisms such as bacterias, and how they live, a few experiments with water, wind, and rocks.

Walking towards the end of the nave there are some dinosaur bones, a T-Rex and a Triceratops are the ones I can remember the most. The kids loooove this! We asked them a few questions and they knew the answers, they just adore dinosaurs.

Here comes my favorite part of Cosmocaixa, the Flooded Wood. The temperature difference is huge, inside the big nave is a bit cold, but once inside the wood is very hot, almost tropical, I think that’s because of the species inhabiting there. That place has a wonderful construction, because it’s this part wood with the water on plane sight almost to be touched and then you keep walking and go straight to the aquarium, in the one you can see these species underwater. It’s super cool (maybe I expressed myself poorly, but it’s better to enjoy).

Once you finish with the Flooded Wood and the Aquarium right away exiting there is an entire section of the human body. How the brain works, the neurons, and nerves. There are some examples of the Human Central Nervous System with real nerves, how cool is that?! There are also examples of different kinds of brains starting with a fish one and finishing with a human one.

I feel like a kid every time I go there because the expositions change from time to time and it’s always something new to learn.

I think there is no need to tell you how much I love being there!

Thanks for your time!

Bye Bye!

See you in my next post!

Since is a bit far from the city center, I leave a little map to help you out with the location. 😉
